5 out of 5 stars I'll never get store bought tortillas again!   August 30, 2010

I made corn tortillas for the first time last night with this tortilla press. This is so easy to use. We had perfect tortillas in no time! I look forward to using this many, many times.

2 out of 5 stars Back to the rolling pin   August 23, 2010

I couldn't wait to get this because I thought tortilla making was going to be so much faster. Wrong. Trying several different ways and methods to get this thing to flatten the tortilla dough was a pain. I ended up with four inch fat tortillas everytime (I was making flour tortillas) I finally grabbed my rolling pin and shoved this press aside. Can anyone tell me what I was doing wrong?? They would not get thin and flat. The minute I released the press they would shrink back to 3 or 4 inches in size.

Cast iron handle broke trying to get the 1/8" thickness. Waited to long to try it and the 30 days ran out.

This works really well for flour and corn tortillas. It's quite heavy duty and has a good sturdy feel to it. I've made flour and corn tortillas and both have turned out very well. I do use plastic wrap to prevent sticking and for easier clean up, but otherwise I just put a ball on it and press down as hard as you want. It's a great money saver so far as well.

Having had two electric versions that supposedly pressed and cooked I didn't like I decided to go low tech. This tortilla press works fine for me. Upon arrival it was a bit oily but that washed right off. So far I've only made tortillas, but I want to try some naan or flat breads also.
